Project #1. Bangladesh

The Republic of Korea and Bangladesh will make close contact with each other for strengthening human resources of Nuclear Medicine in Bangladesh from 2018 to 2020.

Based on average life expectancy and per capita national income, underdeveloped and developing countries, especially in Bangladesh, are now transitioning from infectious and communicable diseases to non-communicable chronic diseases. Although Nuclear Medicine is core of treating non-communicable disease considerable assistance from developed country of nuclear medicine is needed for human infrastructure education and rebuilding nuclear medicine system.

WHO aims to strengthen the medical infrastructure by increasing the number of healthcare workers and improving healthcare quality through Sustainable Development Goal 3.c. Bangladesh has 96 Nuclear Medicine physicians and scientists in a population of 160 million. There is a high potential to achieve a great development of health workforce in Nuclear Medicine through educational training.
This will be an important first step in the “Share Project(Draft)” and WFNMB Portal Website will be an effective communication tool.
The project funded by KOICA and TEIN (Asi@connect) consists of four activities.
